I don't know if you have noticed, but relativism has crept into the church. We live in a post-modern culture where there are no absolutes, and Christians have fallen pray to this thinking as well. Perhaps you have seen this yourself when someone says, "that's just your interpretation". This isn't just a phrase for the 21st century - it's been being said for a long time. The idea that scripture can speak authoritatively and we should use it that way is one that certainly rubs up against our modern relativism.
