What about "winsome third-way-ism"?

This is a followup thought from the article and my thoughts on the New Cultural Christianity from last week.

Most of you have heard me talk about Aaron Renn's positive, neutral, and negative world thesis for how Christianity is viewed in America. Woods has a link to that thesis in the article if you aren't familiar with it. FWIW, Renn's grid is helpful, but may be incomplete because negative world existed in certain parts of the country long before the past two decades.

I have to say he is spot on about "winsome third-way-ism". To summarize this, it is essentially that in their cultural witness popular Christian leaders coddle left and punch right. I think earlier in my pastoral ministry I fell prey to this, and I regret that.

Woods' main point is that if there is going to be an influx of New Cultural Christians we need to be ready for them, not disdaining of them, with which I whole-heartedly agree. To quote someone who was known to really coddle left and punch really hard right, we need to be ready for the refugees of the sexual revolution that will be coming our way (and he was certainly right about that).
