This an older article by Kevin DeYoung on the roots of Christmas being December 25. The long and short is that we can't be absolutely certain why the celebration ended up that day, but the common trope that it was a rip-off from paganism is far from certain, and even doubtful. It's a little nerdy, but a fun read nonetheless.
