Last week I was in a discussion about life, medicine, and friendship (it was a wide ranging conversation) with one of the hospital residents that has been coming to our church. He mentioned this article and I found it very helpful. It pretty much reflects where I have landed on Christians using medication for depression, anxiety, and other mental health related issues.
At one point, I would have been in the firm NO camp on this issue, saying that the person should trust God's promises more and rely on the Holy Spirit more. But for many of the reasons mentioned in this article, about ten years ago I began to change my thinking. While trusting God's promises and relying on the Holy Spirit more might often be what needs to happen, those things alone aren't always the case. This article lays out what I think is a biblical approach for us to consider. If you find it helpful for your situation I would love to discuss it with you more.
